The Twin Cities Chapter of the Association for Talent Development partnered with the Minority Business Growth Alliance to host an expert panel event December 11, 2020: Breaking Taboos and Avoiding Minefields: Skills to Help Build Cross-Cultural Communication. The event was an open and frank dialogue that explored ways we can build greater communication competence around race and communication in the workplace and in our everyday lives.

The event featured a panel led by Dethra U. Giles, Anyi Espinal, and Karl Benson, along with MBGA’s Mary Rapaport. Following a breakout session, where participants divided into small groups to brainstorm questions on building cross-cultural communication, panelists discussed barriers they have encountered related to racial biases. Panelists offered suggestions and potentially useful information in improving cross-cultural communication, such as how to be intentional in cross-cultural communication, and how to move from conversation to action.
